Innisfallen Island hosts the remarkable ruins of Innisfallen Abbey, one of the most significant archaeological sites from the early Christian period within Killarney National Park. Founded in 640 by Saint Finan the Leper, the monastery was inhabited for nearly 950 years.

For about 300 of those years, the monks of Innisfallen Abbey meticulously documented the early history of Ireland in the Annals of Innisfallen. These chronicles provide a unique glimpse into Ireland's past as understood by the monks of that era.
