These beautiful and authentic Japanese Gardens are located in the gorgeous city of Tramore, County Waterford.
The gardens reflect the life and wanderings of Patrick Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) who grew up in Ireland and whose life journey involved embracing several parts of the world. This beautiful sight pays homage to the fame that he attained in Japan through his literary descriptions of the people, customs and culture of that country.
As you travel through the gardens, follow Lafcadio Hearn's life journey as you first go through the Victorian Garden, then to the American and Greek garden until eventually arriving at the Japanese Gardens which features many Japanese plants and Japanese architectural features.
These gardens are a place of absolute beauty and tranquillity for all who visit. Children are introduced to the magical gardens through a special childrens discovery trail which has secret pathways, woodlands and Lafcadio Hearn's fairy tales and folklore.
Tour Details
- Check-in - On arrival go through the main gate at Pond Road and turn immediately left through Japanese Gate by the hut.
- The gardens are open every day from 11am - 5pm.
- The last entry to the gardens is 4.30pm.

- Children must be supervised by an adult at all times
- Please keep to paths at all times and wear comfortable shoes.
- Boardwalk in Woodland area not suitable for Wheelchairs and Buggies

- Due to health and safety dogs are not permitted in the gardens except Service Dogs.
- Gardens 1-6 Accessible for Wheelchairs – Accessible Toilet Facilities available.
- Enchanted Gardens is a family experience and operates a very strict no-smoking and no-alcohol policy.
Cancellation Policy
- Lafcadio Japanese Gardens reserves the right to cancel or postpone the tour without notice for any reason. In the unlikely event of this happening, you will be offered the option of a refund or re-book for another event date.
- Tours cancelled 48 hours or more before the selected time are entitled to a refund. Tours cancelled less than 48 hours before selected time slot will be charged full price.
