Rathcroghan played a crucial role in the early medieval period and is associated with legendary figures & events from Irish mythology. On this tour you will be guided through Rathcroghan’s rich archaeology, mythology and history dating back over 5,000 years. Commencing in Medieval Tulsk you will be guided through Tulsk Fort and Priory. You will then be transported through various periods in time, spanning from the Neolithic Period to the Bronze and Iron Age, exploring Rathcroghan Mound and its surrounding monuments. This tour involves hands-on demonstrations, storytelling, and other immersive experiences.

Oweynagat is a significant and mythological rich cave associated with Rathcroghan. According to Irish mythology, it is considered the birthplace of the Samhain festival - Celtic Halloween.

 

Included with your Rathcroghan Guided Tour ticket is access to both the Rathcroghan Museum and Interpretive Rooms. The museum is home to the 'Óenach Cruachain' collection which contains some stunning artefacts from the grounds of Rathcroghan. This collection was formerly housed in the National Museum of Ireland and was previously inaccessible to the public for viewing. It is truly a must see on your visit!

Rathcroghan involves many outdoor exhibits, please be mindful of the weather and dress appropriately.

 

From May to August inclusive, only the 14:00pm will provide entry to Oweynagat cave.

 

Accessibility to the cave may depend on various factors, such as weather conditions and safety considerations.
